Canada is one of the top destinations which attract a large volume of students from India and all over the world. Alongside securing admission to the University, a study permit is also required to enter Canada. This is issued when they come to Canadian borders. Prior to the study permit being issued, the student has to apply for a Temporary Visa which will be issued by the Canadian High Commission. The Student Visa process starts after the procurement of the College Acceptance Letter. June is the deadline date if one needs to secure admission in the September intake. Correct documentation will enable you to get the Visa stamping done on your passport without any hassles.

  1. Bonafide Passport

You require a bonafide Passport to apply for a valid Study Permit in Canada. Your bonafide passport should be valid for the duration of the intended stay of the student in Canada. For instance, if you wish to travel to Canada for the September 2021 intake for a two-year course, your passport should be valid until at least September 2023.

2. Acceptance Letter by a Designated Learning Institution (DLI)

The acceptance letter is a must from the university/ institute from which you have secured admission. A Designated Learning Institute (DLI) is an institute that is recognized by the IRCC. In case you are applying for the French-Speaking province of Quebec, you would also require a CAQ as a mandatory requirement.

3. Confirmation of Funds

At the time of application for the Student Visa, the student is required to show proof of funds. Currently, students should prove to have enough funds in their account to pay the tuition fees as well as provide for living expenses. The IRCC requires a student would require at least CAD 10,000 for every year of your stay.

4. Passport Size Photographs

If you have selected your application under the Non-SDS Category, at least two passport-sized photographs that conform to the given standards should be there with you. For the online application, you should procure a digital copy of the photograph which should not be greater than 4MB. Other requirements are neutral facial expression, white background as well as no headgear (unless for religious purposes). Note:

The size of the image should be at least 35 mm x 45 mm
An image should be recent (not older than 6 months)

5. Medical Examination (ME)

IRCC requires all students from India to undergo a compulsory Medical Examination from impanelled doctors. A Student should book an appointment at the designated hospital and visit the hospital for a medical examination and related tests, preferably a week before the Visa Application. This provides the doctor with enough time to validate the report.

6. English Language Proficiency Test results

English Language Proficiency Test like IELTS, TOEFL, PTE results should be carried by the student for verification by the Visa Officer at Canadian High Commission. Minor queries can come up during the Visa Interview.

7. Statement of Purpose

When you apply for a Canadian Study Visa, the student is required to submit an essay stating the purpose of the visit to Canada and the reason to select that particular institution. Some institutes have made it mandatory to submit the Statement of Purpose to check the intentions of the student visiting Canada.

8. Credit Card

For online applications, the student is required to have a credit card to pay the Visa Application fee. The Visa Application Fee for Canada is CAD 160. Anyone’s credit card can be used for making the payment.
